Vet Pet Insurance

Pet Insurance: a Vital Form of Protection for You and Your Pet
Most people are aware of the importance of insurance – whether it’s car insurance, home insurance, or life insurance. After all, you can’t predict the future; and when the unexpected occurs, it’s best to be insured. While countless people choose to invest in insurance for their homes and cars, many don’t always consider purchasing insurance for their pets. However, pet insurance is another form of protection that can end up saving you a lot of money in the long run.
For instance, if you have a pet cat, there’s a 50% chance your feline will need to see a Vet within the year – whether it’s for an illness, injury, or regular check-up. However, vet bills are now pricier than ever, with MRI scans costing around £1000, and treatment for injuries from a car accident costing around £3000. With the most unexpected occurrences often costing the most, it pays to insure your pet with a comprehensive insurance policy.
So, what exactly should you look for in an insurance policy for your cat? To begin, check that it covers the basics, such as veterinary bills in the event of illness, injury and emergencies. Many comprehensive pet insurance policies will also cover the theft or loss of a pet – for instance, providing reward money or covering the cost of advertising when searching for a pet. And some will even provide compensation if a pet dies from injury or illness.
Of course, there are many more questions to ask a provider before choosing a policy. For example, it’s a good idea to enquire whether potential providers use a network of Veterinarians. If they do, and if you already have a vet, you’ll want to check if your vet is in the network. If your vet is not in the network, you’ll have to choose a new vet. However, if you don’t want to change your vet, you’ll likely want to consider another provider.
You’ll also want to look into the deductible and co-pay associated with each Pet Insurance Policy, not to mention incident, annual, and lifetime caps – a “cap” being the maximum amount an insurer will provide for an incident, full year, or lifetime of a pet.
Last but not least, you might consider securing a policy that includes third party cover. This type of insurance would protect you if your pet were to cause injury or damage to a third party – for example, by running out into the street and causing an accident.
So, remember that pet insurance is an important form of protection for both you and your beloved pet. Whether you’re looking for cat insurance, dog insurance, or insurance for any other type of pet, rest assured there’s a policy to cater to your needs.
